What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise program that aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. Pilates exercises can be done on a mat or using special equipment, such as the Reformer, the Cadillac and Wunda Chair. The emphasis is on quality and not quantity. Clients come to Pilates for a variety of reasons - back problems such a 'slipped discs', recovery from surgery or injury, shoulder impignment or they just want to improve their core, posture or balance.

The Pilates equipment offers many benefits as it can be used to provide support for beginners and people with certain medical conditions, as well as resistance for people looking to challenge their body. Quicker results are acheived as you are moving against the resistance of the springs using the springs of the machines to improve your posture and balance, and make you stronger and more flexible.

Why Pilates4horseriders?

The Pilates for horse riders studio  was established in 2009 by Deborah and is convenient located for Reading in Berkshire and Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire. The studio is well equipped with a reformer, trapeze table, Pilates arc, Combi chair and other small equipment.  Using the Pilates equipment gives equestrians  a quicker result as you are using the equipment's springs to add resistance to the exercise rather than gravity or your own weight which is what you do in a mat work class.

Deborah focus is to improve your riding so you can enjoy your horse. She works mainly on a 1:1 basis so she can develop a program to meet the needs of the rider. She always works on the. She can give the rider the attention that is required and can offer corrections immediately.  She can also change the program depending on what she sees - useful if you have had a difficult time with your horse the day before.

To ensure clients benefit fully from their investment in Pilates, Deborah offers equipment classes as a 1:1, small classes with no more than 3 people or matwork only with a maximum number of 4 in the class. As a qualified sports massage therapist, Deborah has a depth and breadth of anatomical and soft tissue knowledge which means programs are tailored to uniquely suit each client. Deborah regularly attends courses and has developed an interest and expertise in rehabilitating clients following injury and surgery  especially hips and knees. She is a keen horse rider and teaches Pilates for horse riders as an additional interest.
